Image Compressor

Make JPG, PNG and WebP images smaller so they upload, send and load faster. Adjust the quality, see the before and after, and keep the result only if you're happy with it.

Images are compressed on your device and never uploaded.

How to use the Image Compressor

  1. Choose an image, or drag it onto the upload area.
  2. Adjust the quality slider. Lower quality means a smaller file but less detail.
  3. Optionally pick a smaller maximum width. For large photos this usually saves the most space.
  4. Compare the original and compressed previews, check the size saved, then download.

What does image compression do?

JPG and WebP use lossy compression: they throw away fine detail that is hard to notice, which makes the file much smaller. The lower the quality setting, the more detail is removed. At very low settings you may see blurring or blocky patches, especially around text and sharp edges. PNG is lossless: it keeps every pixel exactly, so it can't be shrunk the same way.

Which settings should I use?

  • Photos for a website or email: JPG or WebP at 70–80% quality, with a maximum width of 1920 px or less.
  • Screenshots, logos and graphics with text: PNG, or WebP at a high quality (85% or more), so edges stay sharp.
  • Images with a transparent background: PNG or WebP. JPG fills transparent areas with white.

Why didn't my image get smaller?

If an image has already been compressed, for example by a phone or another website, saving it again may barely change its size, and can occasionally make it larger. The tool always shows the real result so you can decide. Reducing the width usually still helps.

Limits and privacy

  • Files up to 25 MB and 50 megapixels. Very large images can fail on phones with limited memory.
  • The compressed copy doesn't keep hidden photo details (metadata) such as the camera model or GPS location.
  • Color profiles aren't kept. Most images look the same, but some professionally edited photos may look slightly different.
  • Animated WebP images are saved as a still image (the first frame).
  • Your image is processed by your own browser. It is never uploaded to our servers.
