How to use the PDF Tools

  1. Choose Merge PDFs or Extract pages.
  2. Merge: add two or more PDFs, put them in order with the arrow buttons, then select Merge.
  3. Extract: add one PDF, type the pages you want (for example 1-3, 5), then select Extract.
  4. Your new PDF downloads straight away. Your original files are not changed.

What gets copied into the new PDF?

Pages are copied exactly as they are, including text, images and layout. Some extras that belong to the whole document, rather than to individual pages, may not be carried over: bookmarks (the outline in the sidebar), fillable form fields, and links that jump to other pages.

Limits

  • Up to 30 files when merging, 100 MB per file, and 250 MB in total. Very large files can be slow on phones.
  • Password-protected or encrypted PDFs can't be opened. Remove the protection in your PDF app first (you'll need the password).

Why isn't there a PDF compressor?

Making a PDF meaningfully smaller usually means re-compressing the images inside it, which we haven't found a reliable way to do in the browser without uploading your files. Rather than offer a “compressor” that barely changes the file size, we've left it out for now.

PDF processing uses the open-source pdf-lib library (MIT license).
